Bar Island ME
"...this is why 1st impressions are often correct..." –David Byrne
Pemaquid Pt put in – slog it through a slight headwind but a strong ebb tide about 2 miles against 3 foot rollers to the point itself. And slow death by barnicles. So we went elsewhere.

Learning to put a spray skirt on in mid-chop. Putting in was an adventure in itself as the local lady directed us to the local public landing & we found it 20' below in mudflats & rockweed, sucking anaerobic scum, and slimy stones.

Getting adjusted to the foot pedals & steering. Sweet slow undulous swells on 7 second intervals with not much wind in the protected early stretch, the water flat but rolling and on the downside the kayak shoots and surges ahead. Big 8' waves rounding the point, as near to leeward (W) as dared. Birds flying up. Rounding the point & heading N the wind behind & the tide allied, we make tremendous time to this fair isle. A little too plush but we'll take it. Today E side_isle to Round Pond ME & back along W shore.

In the evening when calm prevails, at the upper campsite the mosquitos move in, so we move the filled dinner plates, wine & water, few plates and utensils to the west-facing beach, in order to catch the last fading sunlight and the dramatic cloudscapes in the distance above the Maine shore. Are upswept & loom, though this night there's no threat of immediate rain. Not like yesterday afternoon when we sat & chat under tarp while the canopy of gray let loose. For not very long.
